The Midway JV football team wrapped up its home football schedule on Thursday as the Raiders hosted the Union Spartans in a cross-county battle. After building a 33-0 lead through three quarters, Midway would go on to win convincingly, 39-12.

Midway got the scoring started just two plays into the game, capitalizing on two big running plays when Jaleen Moore found the end zone with 10:48 showing on the clock in the first quarter. The PAT was no good and Midway led 6-0.

Midway picked up another touchdown with 3:44 left in the first quarter as Cameron Barefoot connected with Tyler Byrd for 55-yard touchdown pass. Again, the PAT missed, but the Raiders now led 12-0.

As the second quarter got underway, the Spartans would find themselves the victim of another stalled drive in Raider territory. Midway would once again capitalize on the opportunity, setting at their own 30-yard line and driving the field for the score with 6:23 remaining. This time the extra point was good and Midway would carry a 19-0 lead into the halftime break.

Out of the break, the Raiders were the beneficiary of an interception by Cal Tyndall, setting Midway up in striking distance at the Spartan 43. Midway took advantage, building on their lead with 5:19 remaining in quarter number three after a Donte Blue 8-yard scamper for the score. The PAT was good and Midway was now ahead 26-0.

The Raiders made it 33-0 at the start of the fourth quarter when Traquan Owens scored on a 30-yard run to make it 33-0 after the successful PAT.

Union finally cracked the scoreboard with 5:47 remaining as the Spartans finally strung together a long drive that began at their own 30-yard line. The 2-point conversion failed and the score was now 33-6.

Union made it 33-12 when they recovered a Midway fumble, setting them up with possession at midfield and driving in for the score with 1:48 remaining.

Midway would tack one one final score with 1:01 remaining as Owens was able to bust through the line for a 50-yard score to bring the game to final tally of 39-12.

Midway is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on Wallace-Rose Hill.
