The Union Spartans traveled to Hobbton on Wednesday night to tangle with the Wildcats on the baseball diamond. Union got the better of Hobbton as the Spartans took home the win, 12-4.

“I was proud of the way my boys played,” Union coach Doug Burley commented. “We still have some things to work on but we hit the ball well and played good defense.”

On the other side of the field, the tone was understandably different but still enthusiastic.

“It was a hard-fought game tonight. My congratulations to Union on a good win,” said Hobbton coach Chris Carroll. “I’m really proud of Junior Esquivel who started tonight as a freshman. He gave us quality innings. We’ve had a tough stretch opening the season; but Hobbton is resilient and will continue to focus and have a great season.”

Stats for the game were not immediately available.

The Spartans are now 2-0 on the season while the Wildcats are 0-2. The two teams meet again Friday night at Union. Game time is 5 p.m.
