The Midway Middle School baseball team traveled to Sampson Middle on Monday, defeating the Dark Horses 14-0. Sawyer Sutton pitched the first four innings, striking out 11 batters and giving up no walks. Dawson Wiggins pitched one inning, striking out the side. Sutton and Wiggins combined for a no-hitter.

Key hitters for the Raiders were Jonathan Cooper, who went 2-for-3 with one run; Sawyer Sutton, 2-for-4 with two runs, Jackson Lee, who went 2-for-3 with 3 runs; Lane Baggett 3-for-4 with two runs; and Hunter Gainey, who went 2-for-4. Gainey also had an outstanding diving catch in right field to preserve the no-hit effort.

On Thursday, Midway hosted the Hobbton Wildcats and picked up their second win on the season as the Raiders defeated the visitors, 12-0.

Dawson Wiggins pitched three innings and allowed no runs on one hit and four strike outs and Colin Avery pitched two innings with no hits and one strikeout.

Key offensive players for the Raiders were Colin Avery going 2-for-4 with two runs, Sutton, 1-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run; Baggett, 1-for-3 with one run; and Tyler Godwin, 1-for-2 with two runs.

Midway will be back in action on Thursday as they host Coats-Erwin Middle.
