The Lady Leopards soccer team carried their 2-0 record to Midway on Friday, as Lakewood made the short trip to Spivey’s Corner for the Lady Raiders season opener. A pair of goals by Kasey McLamb and a third goal by Riley Kinlaw would be the dagger that gave the Lady Leopards their first loss of the season as Midway took the victory, 3-0.

A big chunk of the first half was scoreless as both teams battled to draw first blood. Despite their efforts, the game remained scoreless midway through the first half.

With 14:59 showing on the countdown, Midway tallied its first goal of the game as McLamb slipped a shot past the goaltender for the 1-0 lead.

The first half was scoreless the remainder of the way with Midway leading 1-0 at the break.

The second half mirrored the first as the defensive battle continued. Both teams were scrapping for a score as Lakewood was looking to tie the game while Midway was hoping to give themselves some breathing room. The second half – just like the first – was scoreless midway through.

At the 16:30 mark, Midway added an insurance goal, as the Lady Raiders netted another goal, this time off the foot of Kinlaw.

Midway notched one final goal to deal the final blow at 3:08 as McLamb tallied her second score of the night to boost the Lady Raider lead to 3-0.

3-0 would be the final score as Midway picked up its first win of the season and Lakewood was handed its first loss.

After the game, Midway head coach Trey Apperson spoke highly of his opponent and credited their effort for helping his own team.

“Lakewood played really hard for 80 minutes and that helped us to be better,” he asserted. “I’m very happy with where we are this early in the season. This is a young team but we have real potential to grow and get better.”

Midway stands at 1-0 on the season with the victory. The Lady Raiders were actually in action Thursday night as well at Rosewood, but that game was not able to be completed due to malfunctions in the lighting system. There was no score at the time of incident and the game has not been completed. Midway hosts Rosewood on Monday night at 6 p.m.

Lakewood falls to 2-1 on the young season and will be back on the field on Tuesday at Union.
