The Midway baseball, softball and soccer teams traveled to Triton on Wednesday night. The Raiders baseball team and Lady Raiders soccer teams enjoyed winning nights, with baseball winning a defensive struggle, 1-0, over the Hawks while soccer won, 3-0. The Lady Raiders softball team experienced a tough night, however, as the hot bats of the Lady Hawks overwhelmed Midway, 16-3.

Baseball

The Raiders and the Hawks were locked in a defensive battle on Wednesday as each team took turns thwarting the others scoring opportunities. The game was scoreless through five innings until a pair of extra-base hits by Adam Butler and Austin Raynor combined to record the games only score as Raynor was credited the RBI that scored Butler to make it 1-0 in the top of the sixth. Carson Calcutt turned in a dominating performance pitching for the Raiders as he went all seven innings. Calcutt recorded a strong 16 strikeouts on the night and only gave up three hits and one walk. Leading the way offensively for Midway, Raynor had two hits and the game-winning RBI, while Butler, Greg Nobles, Colby Pope and Matthew Nunnery each had one hit.

Soccer

The Lady Raider’s soccer team improved it shut out streak on Wednesday night. Midway took advantages of goals by Addison Apperson, Rachel Edwards, and Kasey McLamb to bring home the 3-0 victory over the Lady Hawks. Midway struck quick in the first half, as Apperson’s goal game just 1:04 into the game to give the Raiders the 1-0 lead. Midway made it 2-0 when Edwards picked up her goal. The halftime score was 2-0 and the final 3-0 tally would be reached when Mclamb picked up her goal with 25:42 showing on the clock.

Softball

It was a rough night on the diamond for the Lady Raiders as there was no stopping Tritons bats. The Lady Hawks took advantage of solid hitting, including multiple homeruns, to record its impressive 16-3 victory. All of Midway’s runs came in the top of the fourth inning as Alyssa Wrench, Hannah Lucas, and Blythe Best all came across the plate to give Midway their three runs.

All three Midway teams will be back in action on Friday as they travel to East Bladen to begin Four County Conference action.
