Midway’s girls soccer team continued their dominating play on Thursday night, blanking the Pender Lady Patriots 6-0 to extend their winning streak to five games. Midway scored all six of their goals in the first half as four different Lady Raiders recorded goals.
The scoring began when Kasey McLamb fired a shot into the back of the net, taking advantage a turnover by the Lady Patriots out in front of the Pender goaltender with 33:25 remaining to make it 1-0.
McLamb helped Midway stretch the lead to 2-0 after she scored her second goal of the game with 25:23 showing on the clock in first quarter.
Midway was the aggressor for much of the game, keeping pressure against the Lady Patriots and scoring at will.
A goal by Meloni Lopez just a 1:20 later — 24:03 remaining in the first half — built the Lady Raider lead to 3-0.
The scoring wasn’t done as Midway would go on to score three more goals the rest of the way.
Mikayla Peterson tallied a goal at 20:40 to make it 4-0, followed by another McLamb goal at 18:17 to make it 5-0 before Camryn Page recorded the game’s final score at 8:36 for the 6-0 final tally.
After the game, Midway head coach Trey Apperson said he is pleased with what he is seeing from his team.
“We’re getting better each game. This is a very young team with eight starters gone from last year so they are still learning to play together,” Apperson said.
With the win, Midway improves to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Four County Conference. They will be back in action on Friday, traveling to take on Cinton.
