After suffering their first setback of the season after a tough loss at Clinton on Friday, Midway’s girls’ soccer team took the field on Tuesday evening seeking to put that game behind them. The Lady Raiders did just that, picking up a 5-0 victory over the visiting Lady Bulldogs of Wallace-Rose Hill.

Midway was the dominant team for much of the night, a fact evident as the Lady Raiders maintained control of the ball throughout the game even as Midway switched things up all game long.

“We’ve got some players that are going to be out later in the week when we play Trask, so we spread the team out and moved them around trying to get them familiar with what’s going to be asked of them on Friday,” Midway coach Trey Apperson stated.

The Lady Raiders seized control of the scoreless game early as Midway senior Riley Kinlaw proved to be a big spark for her team. Kinlaw scored the first three Midway goals, the first coming with 26:57 showing on the clock to give Midway a 1-0 lead.

Kinlaw struck again just 52 seconds later, building Midway’s lead to 2-0 with 26:05 displayed on the scoreboard.

She completed the hat trick with 20:02 left in the first half, extending the Lady Raiders lead to 3-0.

Midway workhorse Kasey McLamb added one more goal late in the half to boost the lead to 4-0 headed to the break.

The second half featured action that was spent mainly with Midway on the offensive. Wallace-Rose Hill was able to muster a couple of run out attempts deep into the Raider defense, but the Bulldogs could never land a solid shot on goal.

As the game was winding down, Addison Apperson tallied one final Midway goal to give the Lady Raiders their 5-0 victory.

One of Midway’s goals coming into the game was putting the Clinton game behind them as well as Apperson wanting his players to take their game to the next level. In the team huddle following the game, the coach applauded his players for doing exactly that and expressed his satisfaction with their performance.

With the win, Midway improves to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in the Four County Conference.

The Lady Raiders will be back in action on Wednesday as they are set to host Triton.
