In the first game of the baseball season, Hobbton High School honored alumnus and Sampson Independent reporter David Johnson threw out the first pirch to start the 2017 campaign. Baseball coach Chris Carroll extended the invite to Johnson, who has also provided the Hobbton schools with thousands of sports pictures to choose from for the annual yearbook. ‘This is a small token of my appreciation for all you do for Hobbton,’ Carroll told Johnson. ‘It isn’t much, but it is something I can to do honor what you do.’ Johnson has been covering Hobbton football for over 45 years and, since retiring from teaching in 2001, has been spending a great deal of time covering all sports at Hobbton High and Hobbton Middle.
