The Hobbton Wildcats men’s and women’s spring track teams participated at the State 1A Outdoor Track Championships in Greensboro this past Saturday, bringing home two state championships, a second-place finish, and two third-place finishes.

Josh Polk won two first-place medals of his own, one in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.92 and the other in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.76.

The Wildcat men’s 4×400 relay team, consisting of Victor Aguirre, Josh Polk, Montrell Parker and Raekwon Bryant, finished in second place with a time of 3:30.12. The Hobbton women’s 4×400 relay team, consisting of India Alston, Janet Thompson, Adriana Montes and Lakelyn Bass, finished third. The 4×800 relay team of Alston, Yocelyn Rivera, Montes and Ashley Hinterleiter finished sixth.

Also turning in solid performances for the Wildcats were Nina Devone, who finished third in the state in the discus with a throw of 122.4 feet; Raekwon Bryant, who finished ninth in the 400-meter dash; and Ashley Hinterleiter, who picked up ninth in the girls 3,200-meter run.

Overall, the boys finished eighth in the state and the girls finished 10th. There were 53 men’s teams and 50 women’s teams at the games.

Also participating at the state games was Montrell Williams of Union, who placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.20.
