The Clinton Lady Dark Horses tennis team lost their first match of the season on the road against Cape Fear, 6-0 in singles matches, as the match was called early due to the weather.

“We ended up just playing singles games. We never got a chance to play any doubles games because of the weather,” said head coach Robert Jones. “Either way, we ended up losing 6-0 and we lost in straight sets. Well everyone did, except for Isabella Faison.”

“She ended up losing the first set 6-3, then came back to win the second set 6-3 before losing the tie breaker set 10-4. I thought she played really well to fight back like she did to win the second set,” said Jones.

Though they lost, Jones believes first-match jitters contributed to his team’s loss.

“It was our first match of the season so I would say that we were much more nervous than Cape Fear probably was. Also, on top of that we were on the road as well, so that didn’t help us at all either,” remarked Jones. “Overall, though, I think we had a good first match and we know a little bit of what we need to work on to get better as the season progresses.”

The Horses were set to play on the road again Thursday, this time against Rosewood.
