After losing their season opener, the Lady Dark Horses tennis team bounced back in a hard-fought match against Rosewood, winning 5-3 on Thursday.
The Horses and the Eagles played for what was almost three and a half hours, going at each other before Clinton was able to get the victory. The Horses played well in single matches, jumping ahead of the Eagles early.
Catherine Smith, Cassidy Montgomery, Mattie Byrd and Kendall Spell each won their respective matches for the Horses. Isabella Faison and Lizzy Tart lost in close tie-breakers in third sets.
Moving on to doubles play, the Rosewood Eagles were able to strike first, however Faison and Tart were able to recover from their singles match losses, winning their doubles match that effectively secured the 5-3 win for the Dark Horses.
The Horses opening season jitters seem to be slowing fading away as they earned a tough win after the season opening 6-0 loss to Cape Fear.
With the victory, Clinton stands at 1-1 and will look to stay in the win column as they travel back to Goldsboro on Tuesday. This time they’ll be be taking on Goldsboro High in their first conference match of the season.
