After an intense match, Lakewood beat Rosewood 3-0 on Thursday night.
Despite Rosewood not scoring above 10 points in the first set, they gave Lakewood a good fight in the second and third, resulting in a score of 26-24 in the second and 25-18 in the third.
Lauran Jackson earned eight digs and four aces for her team. Anna Beth Averette earned 10 kills, Peyton Crumpler had three aces and Ally Grace Royal finished with nine kills and two aces.
Meanwhile, Krislyn Bullard earned 23 assists, Madelyn Ammons 8 digs and Brianna Wheeler and impressive 12 digs.
“This is our third game this week,” explained Coach Sheila Davidson. “We played a really emotional five-set match against Midway last night so coming to this game, we were banged up soar slow and Rosewood gave us every scramble play we were hoping they wouldn’t give us. They played really well and scrappy which I knew they would, their coach is amazing. I was so glad we came with energy and finished that second match.”
Davidson praised Ammons and Jackson for stepping up and playing two positions on the team they had not played in all year and managed to perform quite well in the roles. They were taking over these roles after a teammate got injured and could not play.
“We sneaked in there and won that second set,” said Davidson. “It says so much about their maturity and their competitiveness. I was very proud of that. It just shows how deep we are and how good our chemistry is for two girls to come in to finish as strong as they did. It shows how talented and deep we really are.”
Lakewood faces off against Princeton in an away game on Tuesday.
