The Dark Horses men’s soccer team repeated its 6-0 performance from their match earlier this week against Midway, beating the Goldsboro Cougars in the same dominating fashion Wednesday by the same final score.

The game was almost a mirror image of the Midway match as the Horses completely dominated the first half against Goldsboro, taking a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime over the Cougars, as they did against earlier this week.

They struck first and fast getting back-to-back goals setting the pace for the rest of the game. The first goal came just 6 minutes in as Ivan Ponce netted himself another goal, adding it to his steadily increasing goal count. In the following minute, Peter Darden connected on his first of two goals, giving his team an early 2-0 lead.

The Horses put up two more scores before ending the half, the first coming from Jared Stephenson in the 18th minute, followed by Obed Gallegos at the 24-minute mark, his first of two goals on the night.

Though they slowed down in the second, it was still all Clinton as they continued to score unanswered goals and deny the Cougars even one.

This is where Darden and Gallegos would each punch in their second goals of the night. Gallegos scored his goal first this time, putting it in at 60 minutes. Darden finished off the match in the 74th minute scoring the sixth and final goal for the Horses and closing out their victory.

Just as impressive as their dominant offensive performance was, the defense not only shut out Goldsboro but allowed just one shot on goal the entire night. Assists for Clinton came from Darden, who had two, as well as Gallegos, Stephenson, Manuel Murrillo and Sammy Sutter, who each had one.

The conference win brings the Dark Horses at 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference. They will continue their conference play next week, on the road Monday against Spring Creek.
