The Lady Raiders volleyball team was back in action Thursday evening, hosting the Lady Gators of Spring Creek in East Central 2A Conference action. Midway made quick work of the visitors, defeating them in convincing fashion in straight sets.
Midway sprinted out to an early lead in the first set to force a timeout by the Lady Gators, but to no avail. The Raiders were just too much for Spring Creek to overcome as Midway won the first set, 25-13.
The second set started out a much closer affair, with the score tied at 7-7. Midway found their footing and begin to march away. The Lady Raiders went on a 9-2 scoring run to make it 16-9 to prompt another Gators timeout. But again, it was too little too late as Midway finished the set with a 25-11 win to go up two sets to none.
The Lady Raiders went on to complete the match in the third set, winning 25-15 for the 3-0 win.
Midway head coach Brandy Wrench expressed how proud she is for her teams play thus far and how they’re growing.
“Proud of the girls effort and how hard they have worked to maintain our winning record,” Wrench said. “Each game we continue to work on cleaning up our play and limiting mistakes and errors.”
“We set goals before each game. Tonight’s goal was to control the game from start to finish and they did that. It’s always an accomplishment to achieve the goals we set,” she concluded.
With the win, Midway improves to 11-2 overall and 7-0 in the East Central 2A Conference. They will continue Conference play next week with two games, first a trip to a Wallace-Rose Hill on Tuesday followed by a home game against Clinton on Thursday.
