After losing its last two matches, Lakewood turned things around to win a shutout victory Wednesday over Princeton 2-0.
“We just made some changes to the offense,” said Coach Jay Faircloth “We made a few changes to defense. This conference is wide open. It’s so different than the last one I coached. It’s more competitive. The changes I made tonight I saw Monday night and we’re just seeing it all come together.”
Carolos Estrada and Edwin Vanegas earned the goals for Lakewood. Estrada notched four shots and four steals while Vanegas added two shots and five steals.
The rest of the Leopards achievements on the stat sheet included: Logan Thomas had 1 shot and six steals; Luis Maradiaga had six shots and six steals; Jorge Ramirez, seven steals; Isai Rosales, six steals; Erick Garcia, six steals; Hector Valenzuela, three steals; Jason Valera, three steals; Yiovanni Rosas, one assist, two steals; Reid Jackson, one assist, two steals; Rafael Pena, two steals; Austin Hernandez, one shot, one steal; and Mason Cashwell, one steal.
“I’m a bit defensive when we’re up ahead, it’s just how I coach,” Faircloth added. “I told my boys at halftime, take those two goals from the first half and throw them in the garbage because anything can happen in that second half. Especially in this conference, if you let someone get back in anything can happen.”
Lakewood will be playing away against North Duplin at 6 p.m. Monday.
