It’s was a tough night for the Midway Raiders on Friday as they hosted the always powerful Wallace-Rose Hill Bulldogs on the gridiron. The Bulldogs, having taken a 14-12 loss a week earlier, took their frustration from that loss out on the Raiders, as they stormed away to victory, 53-7.

Things got ugly quick for Midway.

After winning the opening flip and electing to receive, the Raiders set up on their own 20-yard line. Having struggled to move the ball on a pair of running plays, Midway opted for a 3rd-down pass attempt but was intercepted by Vohaunce Murphy who returned it 35 yards for the touchdown. After the successful PAT, Wallace-Rose Hill led 7-0 with 10:28 left on the clock.

The story for a majority of the night for Midway was “three and out” as the Raiders just could not muster up any offense against the Bulldogs.

WRH was back in the end zone with 7:01 displayed on the clock after a short 2-yard touchdown scamper by Desmond Newkirk. The PAT was good and WRH led 14-0.

Following another failed Midway possession, the Bulldogs found the end zone again with 4:21 left in the opening quarter after Javonte Williams scored on a 13-yard touchdown run. After the PAT, the Bulldogs were in full command at 21-0.

Continuing the onslaught, WRH would find the end zone once again prior to the end of quarter, cashing in on a 46-yard touchdown run by Kameron Donaldson with just 1.9 showing on the clock.

The Bulldogs didn’t score at quite the same pace in the second quarter but they did find pay dirt twice to push their lead to 40-0 at the half, having missed both PAT attempts.

The first score came on a short field situation after Midway gambled and lost on fourth down deep within their own territory. It only took one play for the Bulldogs to capitalize as Williams found the end zone again from 24 yards out.

The second score came with 3:07 left as quarterback Michael Basden connected with Donaldson on a 67-yard touchdown pass.

After the halftime break, it only took 45 seconds for WRH to initiate the running-clock mercy rule situation after taking a 46-0 lead on a 60-yard touchdown pass from Basden to Newkirk.

The Bulldogs scoring finally concluded with 1:15 remaining in third as Donaldson was the beneficiary of another 67-yard pass play. One final time the PAT was good and the lead was now 53-0.

The Raiders finally cracked the scoreboard as time expired as Jamerius Rich caught a 25-yard TD pass from Cameron Barefoot. The PAT was good as Midway fell 53-7.

With the loss, Midway drops to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the East Central 2A Conference. They are back in action on Friday as they travel to take on Clinton.
