The Dark Horses galloped past Midway Friday night at home, shutting them out 49-0 and going on a three game winning streak.
This ended up being a lop sided victory for the Horses, but it didn’t start out that way. The Raiders actually held Clinton out of the end zone the entire first quarter, leaving the Horses scoreless.
The pressure didn’t last and Clinton seemed unstoppable in the running game, scoring three unanswered rushing touchdowns in the second quarter. The Dark Horse defense kept the Raiders out of their own end zone, ending the first half of the game 21-0.
Clinton’s momentum didn’t fall off during the second half of the game, and the Raiders couldn’t do much to slow down the Horses’ running game. Again, the Dark Horses scored 21 unanswered points, pushing their lead to 42-0 at the end of the third quarter.
The final touchdown for Clinton was scored in the fourth quarter, leaving Midway unable to put any points on the scoreboard.
The Dark Horses amassed 384 total yards on the ground and averaged 12.80 yards a carry, as the defense racked up 46 tackles with 2 sacks and 2 interceptions.
Leading rushers for Clinton were Jalen Smith who rushed for over 100 yards again with 139 yards on 12 carries. Donte Mclellan showed out with 139 yards of his own on just 8 carries and A.J. Williamson finished with 51 yards on 6 carries.
Defensive leaders were Jaivah Cruse with 9 tackles and one interception, Khari Williams with 8 tackles and 1 sack, Mclellan with 6 tackles and an interception, Williams who added 6 tackles and Zion Autry who finished with 6 tackles and a fumble recovery.
With their third win in a row, the Dark Horses improve to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference. They host Goldsboro next Friday during the homecoming game.
As for the Midway Raiders, they fall to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. They are back home next Friday facing off against East Duplin.
