Catherine Smith has played well all year for CHS but got to rest Monday in preparation for the conference tournament. The Horses fell to the Crusaders in their final match of the season 6-3.

The Clinton Dark Horses lady tennis team played its final match of the season on Monday against Harrells Christian Academy. They weren’t able to pull off the victory against the Crusaders, dropping the match 6-3.

Though they lost, the Horses did no play their top six players in this match up, opting to rest all of them in preparation for the upcoming conference tournament. As a result, several players got to play some of their first singles matches of the year.

Clinton was able to come away with two wins in singles matches. Leading the way with those two wins were both freshmen for CHS. These players were Maegan Byrd and Michaelah Hall.

They weren’t able to find much success in doubles matches either, only being able to come away with one win. A freshman was also part of the winning duo that claimed victory for the Horses. Cristal Ortiz along with her junior partner Mariztha Mondragon were able to clinch that win for CHS in doubles.

With this being the end result, the Dark Horses closed the door on their season. They end the year at 7-6 overall, 6-4 in conference play and finishes the season taking third place in the East Central Conference.

They wait and continue to prepare for the conference tournament, which will be taking place on Tuesday.
