The Union Spartans hosted the North Duplin Rebels to celebrate senior night. The home team went down in defeat 3-0 in the final match of the season.

The Rebels commanded the match as the Spartans just couldn’t keep pace with them, leading to an unfortunate sweep on senior night.

The visiting rebels got right to business in the first game of the match, opening up a big lead of 7-2. They never looked back controlling the entire set and went on for a 25-11 victory.

UHS struggles didn’t stop there, as North Duplin widened its point gap even more in set two.

After a switch of sides, the Rebels took up right where they left off in game one. The Rebels took 10-5 lead early and went on to win set two by an even bigger margin than the previous set, the score of 25-9.

The Spartans stepped up their game in set three to make the final set of the day a little closer.

Union got on the scoreboard first and then built up a lead of 8-5. The Rebels caught up and then went ahead by the score of 13-11. North Duplin then went on a hot streak and built their lead to 19-13. The Spartans then went on a scoring streak of their own by Sabrina Newkirk to make the score 19-16. The Rebels then went on a 5 point run to bounce back.

North Duplin had its biggest battle in this set but eventually took set three by the score of 25-17.

This was the final game for the Spartan’s regular season. They finish the regular season 1-16 overall and winless in the conference at 0-12. They have an open date on Thursday.
