The East Central cross country conference championship took place on Tuesday and the Clinton Dark Horses claimed first place in both men’s and women’s.

The Horses competed against four other high schools East Duplin, Midway, Spring Creek and Goldsboro.

The men completely owned their competition, five runners finished in the top seven out of 39 runners. These runners included Kade Sutton, Charles Jordan, Jared Parker, Greg Monk and Eric Wynn, taking first with 16 points.

The women had four finish in the top seven out of 17 runners. They were Elizabeth Coleman, Maegan Lamb, Ella Faison and Olivia Gillespie, taking first with 22 points.

For men’s Sutton finished in first with a time of 16.05, Jordan finished second at 16.17, Parker finished third at 17.03, Monk claimed fourth at 17.25 and Wynn claimed sixth at 17.44.

The other two runners for men’s were Ryan Bass and Robert Smith. Bass finished in 13th place with his time of 19.03 and Smith finished in 26th place at 21.30 for his time.

For the Lady Horses, Coleman claimed first place with her time of 19.50, followed by Lamb in second at 22.35. Faison was in fifth for CHS at 23.47 and Gillespie rounded out the top seven in sixth with a time of 23.51.

Their other three runners were Bailey Spell at 24.12, Olivia Williford at 24.45 and Jessica Parker at 25.16 who finished eighth, 13th and 15th respectively.

Sutton received a plaque for Men’s Runner of the Year and Coleman also received a plaque for Women’s Runner of the Year. Medal winners for men included Jordan, Parker, Monk and Wynn. Women’s medal winners were Lamb, Faison and Gillespie.
