Lakewood won their final home game of the conference against Rosewood, scoring a 3-0 victory Monday.
Neither team seemed to be on the defensive for too long as they pushed back and forth trying to get a goal. Rosewood repeated the same mistake as their goalkeeper ran out to intercept the ball, the Leopards managing both times to get past him and shoot into the Eagles’ empty net.
Yiovanni Rosas earned an impressive two goals on two shots, along with four steals. Austin Hale scored one goal and had two steals. Once again, Tyler Hobbs proved to be an impressive goalkeeper.
“This is a special night for the seniors, and the entire team,” said coach Jay Faircloth. “I’m proud of them. I can sit here for hours talking about what we did right and very little about what we did wrong. Playing against Rosewood and one of my best friends, Coach Eddie (Maldonado) — always brings out the best in the boys.”
This is the final season Faircloth will be with the Leopards, making the night a bittersweet one for the team.
“I don’t know when it’s going to be yet, but this is my last ride with these boys,” Faircloth said. “It’s been fun, but it’s also been one of the most draining years.”
In celebration of their victory and to show love for their coach, Lakewood players dumped a cooler of cold water on him after the game, which Faircloth took in good humor.
In stats: Logan Thomas, six steals; Erick Garcia, seven steals; Luis Maradiaga, one assist and three steals; Carlos Estrada, one shot and three steals; Reid Jackson, two steals; Jorge Ramirez, one shot and seven steals; Jason Valera, four steals; Rafael Pena, three steals; Edwin Vanegas, three shots and seven steals; and Isai Rosales, one steal; and Hector Valengas, one shot.
Lakewood approaches their final game of the conference at Neuse Charter Wednesday. They stand at 9-11 overall, 8-6 in conference.
