The Hobbton Wildcats traveled to Union Spartan country Thursday night and came home tamed in a typical hard fought game as the Spartans won 53-0.

Hobbton had first chance picking up one first down before being forced to punt. Union took over at their 43-yard line and proceeded to put points on the board with 7:25 left on a 6-yard run by Vance King. Emari Carter ran for two, putting the Spartans up 8-0.

On the ensuing possession, Hobbton laid the ball on the ground where it was scooped by Benny Frederick at the Wildcat 17-yard line. At the 6:15 mark, Union went up 14-0 on a 4-yard run by King. Carter converted the PAT on a run moving the margin to 16-0.

The Wildcats started over at their 25-yard line but went three-and-out with Union taking over just across midfield at their 49-yard line. The Wildcat defense stopped the Spartans on the 15-yard line to end the first quarter. First play of the second quarter resulted in another fumble with Union recovering at the Wildcat 12-yard line. King hit pay dirt again on a 12-yard run 16 seconds into the quarter. The PAT failed on a run, the score was 22-0.

The Wildcats took over again but didn’t gain much. Union took over just across midfield again. With 6:58 left in the half, King scored again from 10 yards out for a 28-0 lead. Travone Robinson scored the PAT for a 30-0 lead.

The Wildcats took over but were forced to punt again. Greyson Rogers got off a good punt which rolled dead at the Spartan 25-yard line. They took the ball 75 yards for a score on a Robinson 10-yard run with 2:18 left in the half. Myan Britt scored the PAT for a 38-0 lead.

After the half, Union started their drive on the Wildcat 49-yard line. With a minute and half gone in the third quarter, Isaac Underwood scored on a nine yard run. King scored the PAT for a 46-0 lead.

The rest of the game was a defensive battle as Union put in the younger players to keep from running the score higher. Union did score again in the fourth quarter on a 24-yard run by Britt. The PAT was good on a kick.

Defensively for the Wildcats, DaCorris Morrison led with 11 tackles. Daniel Britt had eight solo tackles with one assist, Tyler Hudson had eight solo tackles, Gregory Morrison had five solo tackles and two assists, Aaron Beasley had three solo tackles and one assist and Preston Daughtry had four solo tackles and one assist.

Offensively, Rogers had 30 yards on 12 carries, while D. Morrison had 19 yards on nine carries. Rogers also was 4-of-10 passing for 20 yards. Will Simmons, Charlie Cruz and D. Morrison caught passes.

Union stats were not immediately available.
