The Lady Dark Horses cruised to victory Thursday afternoon against county rival team Hobbton, beating the Wildcats in their own holiday tournament, 52-23.
The loss of Isa Banks and Alex Canady due to injury did not hurt Clinton offensively in this game. They jumped out to a huge lead early and rode it to a win.
The Horses opened up the game up with an impressive showing on both offense and defense in the first quarter. Scoring 21 points the defense was just as strong shutting out the Wildcats, the score 21-0 after one.
The second quarter was almost a repeat of the first with Clinton still in control. They added on another 21 points to their lead. While defensively holding Hobbton to just three points.
With the first half flying by, the Horses were ahead big 42-3.
Hobbton didn’t quit having much more offensive success in the second half. Unfortunately they were to far behind to make anything happen.
Matching Clinton every step the entire third quarter, the Wildcats showed signs of life. Though they mirrored them scoring eight apiece, the mercy rule kicked in at 5:40 in the period. Then in the fourth, Hobbton outscored the Horses 12-2.
Ashlyn Williams continues to be the captain Clinton needs with their injury problems. She went for 30 in this game, leading all scoring. For the Wildcats, Aneesha Dunn did the most damage going for 13 of Hobbton’s 23.
The Horses advanced to play Midway in the title game of the Kenny Bass Holiday Classic, while the Wildcats remain without a win on the season at 0-9 and 0-2 in their conference play. They hit the court again on Jan. 2 against Princeton.
