Leopards suffer ‘disappointing loss’

Lakewood’s soccer team lost their third straight conference game on Monday, this time, to Rosewood. Rosewood scored the final 2 goals of the game to win, 2-1.

Lakewood’s head coach Jay Faircloth was very disappointed in his team’s play in the second half.

“I thought that in the first half, we played the best we had all season. We were moving, and everything was looking good,” said Faircloth. “The second half was ugly. It was like about half of the team just quit. I’m not saying everybody did, because some of our team really did play well and play hard. I’m telling you though, some guys just simply acted like they did not care what happened. We stressed the importance of the game and of the second half, and they just didn’t respond. I feel like I’m doing everything I can as a coach, but the guys have to buy in. This is the most disappointing loss I can remember having since I have been the head coach.”

Lloosman Zabala scored Lakewood’s lone goal, which gave them a 1-0 lead 12 minutes into the game. The Eagles would knot the score at 1-1 before halftime, then take the lead on a corner kick in the second half.

Lakewood is back in action on Wednesday when they take on Princeton at home. Each game seems to be growing with importance for Lakewood, as they have been unraveling of late.

They are now 3-3 in conference play on the season, after starting the conference slate, 3-0.
