Lakewood’s volleyball team swept James Kenan in three straight sets on Tuesday for another conference win. The Lady Leopards took the first set 25-13, before winning the second, 25-9, and the third, 25-13.

NyAsia James had a nice game for Lakewood, as she had 5 kills and career-high 9 solo blocks. Joing her in leading the Lady Leopards were, Brianna Wheeler, with 3 kills, 5 aces, and 4 digs; Morgan Bonner and Courtney Mixon, who each posted 5 kills to the box score.

Alana Jackson added 10 assists, 3 aces, and 1 kill, and Anna Heinz continued her stellar season, racking up 22 digs to go with 4 aces, 2 kills, and an assist.

Lakewood’s head coach, Sheila Davidson like the way her team came around on Tuesday after she felt they got off to a slow start.

“We started slow tonight, but the offense finally clicked late in the first set,” she said. “Our serving was much better tonight. Anytime you serve 15 aces, you are doing well. NyAsia James set a personal best with 9 solo blocks. She was a dominating presence in the middle, and that really seemed to change James Kenan’s offense. We will just keep working hard, and continue trying to peak at the right time.”

Lakewood is set to travel to Hobton Thursday. Their record now improves to 11-7 overall, and 8-2 in conference play. They remain second in the Carolina 1-A Conference standings, behind only Princeton, the defending state champions.
