Lakewood’s soccer team annihilated Neuse Charter on Monday, as they scored early and often to take down their conference opponent, 10-1.

Jonathan Gonzalez had a huge game for Lakewood as he scored 4 goals on the evening. He was followed by Frances Flores, who had a hat trick, with 3 goals. Lloosman added 2 goals as well to lead the LHS.

Matt Wuester and Javier Medel each had an assist for the Leopards, and Lakewood goalie, Pate Holland, had 6 saves in 7 shots on goal. In fact, the only Neuse Charter goal came late in the game when a Lakewood defensive player accidentally knocked it in their own goal on a mishap that proved not to matter, as the game was very lop-sided.

“It was a good win, and I feel like we were able to carry over the good play from the second half of the North Duplin game last week into the game today,” said Lakewood’s head coach, Jay Faircloth following his team’s stellar performance.

“We knew coming into today that we were more talented than Neuse Charter, no disrespect to them, but we knew that we should win this game. We were able to come out and get the job done, and I thought the guys really did what we wanted them to do. They came out and played hard, and we were able to get some guys in that don’t normally play a lot, which is a good thing. We have another big game Wednesday, then another Thursday. It is a crucial couple of weeks for us, and we hope to keep our momentum and chemistry flowing.”

Lakewood takes on the James Kenan Tigers first, as they host them on Wednesday. They then travel to Spring Creek on Thursday. A pair of wins could go a long way for the Leopards, who seem to finally be playing at a high level once again. Lakewood-James Kenan is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
