The Union Lady Spartans honored four seniors on Tuesday during their Senior Night game and regular season finale against the visiting Midway Raiders.

Midway was too much for the Lady Spartans, as they downed the home team in straight sets. The JV Raiders also won, which capped off an undefeated conference season.

For the JV team, Rachel Hodges had 5 kills, and McKinzie Chavis had 10 service points and 4 aces.

The win helped the JV team finish the regular season at a stellar 19-4 mark.

For the varsity team, Leah Williams had 5 aces, and 10 points. Taylor Faircloth had 17 assists, and Savannah Spell and Haley West each had 4 kills to lead the way.

For Union, Mia Bronson had 4 aces and Destiny Robinson had 4 kills, a dig and 2 blocks.

Their head coach, Krystin Moore was pleased with the contribution that her seniors had given her this season. “We are really proud of what they have done, both from a leadership and skillful role. They are going to be greatly missed next year,” said the Spartan head coach.

Midway’s head coach, Jennifer Naylor praised her JV team and all they were able to accomplish, and mentioned that she was proud of her varsity team as well.

“We are more than likely going to finish second in the conference, which is the best we have ever finished, so that is something to be proud of,” said Naylor. “The playoffs are coming up on Saturday. We don’t know when or where, but we are hoping that we will be able to play a home game. We have some things to sort out, but we are excited to get things started in the playoffs, and are pleased with a good season.”

The NCHSAA Volleyball playoff brackets will be released later this week. To find out where and when local teams are playing, follow the paper on Twitter @SampsonInd, and sports writer Adam Capps @ac4birdie.
