Last week’s picks resulted in an undefeated 3-0 record, improving the season total to 27-7. County teams, Lakewood and Midway, dropped games to Duplin County powerhouses, Wallace-Rose Hill and James Kenan, while Clinton easily defeated Union last week. This week, the county teams have a chance to get back in the win column, while Clinton will celebrate homecoming against a tough West Balden team.
The Midway Raiders come home after their loss to Wallace-Rose Hill to play the Trask Titans. After a couple of deflating losses in the past couple of weeks, Midway should recover against a struggling Trask team. Austin Raynor will get the Raider offense back on track and the Raiders get a big win.
Final Score: Midway- 48 Trask- 14
Hobbton travels to play their toughest game of the year against James Kenan. The Wildcats may need another week off after facing the surging Tigers. The Tigers should handle Hobbton easily. Look for the Tigers to score in every phase of the game.
Final Score: Hobbton- 6 James Kenan- 41
The Spartans of Union will travel to Burgaw to play the Pender Patriots. Union is probably glad to be back on the road. The Spartans have been road warriors this year, winning three of their four away games and only one of their four home games this year. The Spartans should improve on their road record as they should get their offense back in gear and their defense, which has lacked no effort, will give Pender problems all night. The Spartans pick up win number five on the season.
Final Score: Union- 28 Pender- 13
In the Game of the Week, Clinton faces Four County Conference opponent, West Balden. The Dark Horses look to sure up a high seed in the upcoming playoffs, as they head down the home stretch. West Bladen’s offense has proven that they can put points on the board this season. Clinton is coming off of two straight shutouts and the Horses defense seems to be coming into its own. Clinton’s loaded backfield with Williams, Skinner and company will have its way with the Knights defense. West Bladen may keep it close for a while, but look for the more athletic Dark Horses to run away at the end.
Final Score: Clinton- 35 West Balden 21
