The Dark Horse Cross Country teams wrapped up the regular season on Tuesday (October 27), placing first at the Four County Conference Championship meet. The team competed against Trask, East Bladen, Midway, Union, and Pender High Schools. Clinton dominated the day with both the men’s and women’s teams winning the Four County Conference Championship at Trask High School.

The Dark Horse men’s Team was led by Charles Jordan who finished first with a time of 18:42. He was followed by Namik Scott (18:51) in second, Kade Sutton (19:20) in third, Greg Monk (20:34) in eighth place and, Angel Rivera (20:37) in ninth place. Clinton scored a total of 23 points. Pender was second with 38 points, Midway was third with 81 points, and Union placed fourth with 103 points.

The Women’s Team scored a total of 19 points led by Elizabeth Coleman (22:26). Ella Faison (24:09) second, Meagan Lamb (24:19) was third, Ashlyn Williams (25:34) fourth and Alejandra Rojas-Rodela finished in eighth place with a time of 26:55. Midway finished second with a total points of 55, Pender was third with 68 points, Union fourth with 111 points, and East Bladen was fifth with a total of 115 points.

Charles Johnson and Elizabeth Coleman of Clinton claimed individual conference honors by placing first at the conference meet, helping their teams advance to the Mid East Regionals in Cary on Saturday, October 31.

On Saturday morning the Clinton runners faired well in the Mideast Regional with both men’s and women’s teams advancing to the state finals. Elizabeth Coleman was the highest finishing runner among the Dark Horse harriers covering the course in 20:48, good for a 5th place finish. Charles Jordan had the best time among Clinton’s men with a time of 17:31, putting him in 17th place overall.

Clinton’s other finishers in the Men’s meet were Kade Sutton with a time of 18:04 (24th), Namik Scott at 18:10 (25th), Greg Monk with a time of 19:05 (30th), Angel Rivera clocked in at 19:22 (32nd), Ritchel Calvaire finished in 22:15 (59th).

In the women’s meet Clinton’s Ashlyn Williams finished in 22:43 (24th), Maegan Lamb ran a 22:48 (25th), Ella Faison clocked a 22:58 (27th), Raegan Barefoot with a time of 23:21 (30th), Maura Westbrook finished in 25:02 (40th) and Alejandra Rojas-Rodela with a 26:02 (49th).

Clinton’s teams placed fourth in both meets, good enough to advance to the State Championships on next Saturday in Kernersville, NC. The men’s team will start at 10 am with the women’s meet following at 11 am.
