Clinton’s girls basketball team is off to a 3-0 start after their easy 70-28 win over Whiteville during the first day of the Dark Horse Tip-Off Classic.

Clinton got off to a 29-9 lead over the Lady Wolfpack during the first quarter, then impressively built that to a 57-17 halftime lead, before coasting to the whop-sided win.

The Lady Dark Horses were led by Brielle Mitchell, who is off to a really good start through the early portion of the season. The Lady Dark Horse scored 22. She was joined by Alex Canady’s 17 points and Ashlyn Warren’s 10 to round out Clinton’s double-digit scorers.

“We really played well today,” admitted Clinton’s head coach Chris Owens after the game. “We did a good job of playing at a fast pace. That is what we always are talking about. We want to force a lot of turnovers on defense then get out and score easy transition points. I thought we did a great job of that today, and that led to us shooting well from the field, and to us being able to get a lot of our players good minutes out there.”

Clinton plays on Tuesday when they travel to Northside (Jacksonville) for a tough non-conference battle. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
