The Midway Lady Raiders dropped their home opener to Triton on Thursday night. The Lady Hawks used a late first half run to carry momentum into the second half, and win the game going away, 58-37.

It was a solid start for the Lady Raiders, playing a Triton team with a lot of talent. Midway trailed 13-9 after a quarter, then 28-22 at halftime.

The Lady Raiders started the third quarter with two straight baskets to cut the lead to 28-26. However, after a Triton timeout, the Lady Hawks went on a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach. Triton led 43-29 after the third, before closing the home team out, 58-37.

Midway was led by JJ Sankey with 8 points and Logan Baggett with 7.

The Lady Raiders struggled with the Triton full-court press the entire game, as they turned it over over 20 times.

“Their press really bothered us,” said Midway’s head coach, Brian Wallum. “We talked about needing to pass the ball to beat the press, but we did not do a good job of that. Triton is a really good team, and we kept it close for a while. We have a lot of work to do, but it’s the second game of the year, and we just need to get some things fixed.”

Midway is now 1-1 on the season.
