The Union Spartans took their basketball action back home Monday night when they took on the Princeton Bulldogs. The Spartans took the victory, 60-49.
The Spartans started the first quarter with a lot of momentum and immediately started attacking the basket. They took a 10 point lead over the Bulldogs, 16-6.
The second score saw a slower pace than the first with the Spartans only putting up 9 points. However, Union was able to hang on to a 7 point lead, 25-18.
After the half, the Spartans seemed to retain the same pace adding 11 points to the board. This was enough to stay ahead of the Bulldogs, 36-22.
In the final quarter, the Spartans dominated the court. They managed to score 24 points and keep the Princeton players behind, winning the game 60-49.
Donta Chavious led the Spartans yet again with 21 points. Jawawn Newkirk contributed 11 points followed by Samuel Crumpler with 8 and Warren Gay with 4.
Head coach Keagan Warren was very happy with his team and their performance. “It was a big win for us tonight. I thought we came out with a lot of intensity and played hard on the court. We slowed down in the second but were able to pick it back up in the fourth quarter and we finished out good. I’m proud of my guys for coming out and winning bouncing back from two losses,” he said.
