The Lady Spartans hosted the West Bladen Knights Tuesday in a wavering match. The Lady Spartans made many attempts to take the lead away from the Knights but came up short in the end, 41-33.

Union kept it a close game in the first quarter. The Lady Knights were able to get a slight lead but the Spartans held on only giving them a 4-point advantage, 14-10.

West Bladen started to build momentum in the second quarter. With the addition of their 18 points, they widened the gap leaving the Lady Spartans behind, 24-17.

After the half, the Spartans made a good run for the lead. Keeping the Lady Knights from the basket and only allowing them 3 points during the third quarter, Union came within one point of tying the game, 27-26.

However, Union lost their grip on West Bladen in the fourth quarter. The Lady Knights were able to pull ahead again winning, 41-33.

Destiny Robinson led the Spartans with 23 points. Faith McKoy followed Robinson with a contribution of 6 points.

“Overall I was very please with their effort. The girls played hard but when you shoot 11 out of 25 from inside the paint and 11 out of 24 at the foul line; we’ve got to do a better job at capitalizing on our opportunities when they’re presented to us,” said Union’s head coach, Bryant Register. Register concluded with how his team had to get ready for their next game and work extremely hard at practice tomorrow.

On Thursday the Lady Spartans will travel to Trask to face the Lady Titans in what had been assumed to be a good match-up.
