The Lady Spartans won a hard fought battle against the Trask Titans Thursday evening. After taking a good lead then giving it away the Lady Spartans were able to come back and take the win, 42-38.

The first quarter started out slowly with only a handful of points going up on the board. Later the Lady Spartans were able to get a lead on the Trask Titans who could not seem to find the basket, 10-4.

Many team members contributed to the 14 points that were scored in the second quarter giving the Lady Spartans a good lead over Trask. Before the half, Union had doubled Trask in points, 24-12.

The Spartan momentum slowed in the third quarter and allowed the Lady Titans to make a good run to close the gap for the lead. At the end of the third Trask was now only 4 points behind Union, 30-26.

The fourth quarter became an intense battle for the win. Trask was able to tie the game and take the lead from the Lady Spartans. Union fought back hard and with under a minute left, took back the lead and kept it for the win, 42-38.

Destiny Robinson led the Lady Spartans adding 16 points. Shamyra Hope scored 9 points followed by Faith McKoy with 8.

“Overall, I’m very proud of our girls on the win tonight; it was a big win for us. Hopefully, we can take this game and keep the momentum going as we go into the Christmas tournament next week,” said head coach Bryant Register.

Register continued to praise the Lady Spartan team for tonight’s win. “I’m very proud of the way we played tonight. We slacked off in the third and they made a big run but we got back in the game and this team really showed me in the fourth quarter what were made of. How they played in the fourth quarter is how they need to play the rest of the season by fighting hard to take the win,” he concluded.
