Lakewood’s girls basketball team earned an easy road win Thursday night when they took down North Duplin on the road.
The Lady Leopards were sound on defense and offense, and cruised to a 76-33 win.
After an early 20-4 lead after one quarter, the visitors increased their lead to 38-10 by halftime, when the game was essentially over. Lakewood was never threatened.
Justina Henry led the Lady Leps with 21 points, and continued her stellar season thus far. Jada Moore scored 14 and Briana Evans added 18 points to the Lakewood total.
North Duplin was led by Rylee Pate, who scored 13, Courtney Brock who scored 7, and Shaily McCarty with 8. Alyssa Santos added 2 and Destiny George scored 3 for North Duplin.
Lakewood’s head coach, Vonnie McNeil was pleased with her team’s play. They had spent some recent practices trying to hone their offense, and the Lady Leopard head coach felt like they did a good job of that on Thursday night.
“We were really good offensively tonight, which yes, is something that we have been working on lately,” she said. “We are pleased with the way the girls played on offense tonight, and with their defense too. It was a complete game, and I really do like what I saw from the girls tonight.”
Lakewood is now 6-3 on the season, entering the Christmas Holiday break.
