The Midway Lady Raiders welcomed the Lady Titans of Heide Trask High School to Spivey’s Corner Friday night. The home team led from start to finish and posted a 54-31 victory.

Both teams struggled to find points early in the game. Midway led 9-3 after 1 quarter. It was 21-9 at intermission.

In the 3rd period, the visitors scored 15 points, but the Lady Raiders still held a 33-24 lead headed to the final frame.

Twice in the 4th quarter, the Lady Titans were able to cut the Midway lead to 7. However, Lady Raider Taylor Faircloth got hot and connected on 9 points in the period as Midway stretched the final margin to 23.

Faircloth finished with 14 points to lead the Lady Raiders. Leah Williams added 12. J. J. Sankey tallied 9. Logan Baggett scored 6, while Hannah Lucas and Tatyana Solomon had 4 each. Alyssa Wrench and Brianna Butler scored 2 a piece. Maddie Royal hit a free throw.

Markayla Ballard led the Lady Titans with 15 points.

“I didn’t feel like we played very well,” assessed Midway head coach Brian Wallum, “but we did enough to win. We kind of played like we did Wednesday night (at Wallace-Rose Hill) but didn’t pull out the win. We didn’t shoot the ball well at all. We missed a ton of layups. A few players played better as far cutting to the basket and making good passes and didn’t make as many turnovers, but we couldn’t finish at times.”

Midway will be taking exams next week and will play again Friday night at West Bladen. The Lady Raiders are 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the Four County Conference. Trask falls to 0-14 and 0-5.
