The Lakewood Leopards hosted North Duplin Tuesday night, looking for their 6th conference win. The home team took a 50-36 victory.
The Leopards led 10-9 after 1 quarter. Their offense and defense both improved in the 2nd period and they posted a 23-14 lead at intermission.
The Leopards led by as many as 16 midway through the 3rd frame, but the Rebels closed it to 34-25 as the quarter ended.
The visitors would never get any closer in the final period and Lakewood finished with a 50-36 win.
Johnny Owens led the Leopards with 17 points. Nasiem Devane connected for 12. Kobe Jackson added 11. Pate Holland and Jirah Cooper contributed 4 each. William Peete scored 2.
Luke Britt led the Rebels with 8 points.
“I was very proud of them,” asserted Lakewood head coach Sylvester Pittman. “I was trying to get a rotation of 5 and 5. The kids gave me good effort tonight. They kind of got scared down at the end, but they focused on what they had to do to finish.”
Lakewood improves to 6-2 in the Carolina Conference and 9-7 overall. They will visit Rosewood Friday. North Duplin falls to 1-7 in conference games and 3-11 overall. They will host James Kenan Friday night.
