The Midway Middle School boys basketball team is moving on to the final round and championship game of the Sampson County Conference Championship to play Sampson Middle on Thursday, at Sampson. They advanced by beating Hobbton on Monday at Midway Middle, by a score of 51-31.

Midway led 17-7 after the first quarter, then built that lead to 34-17 at halftime. They led 42-25 after 3, before coasting to the 20 point victory in the end.

It was a solid outing for Midway as they shot a good percentage from the floor and played good defense. Hobbton struggled against the Midway traps at times, leading to Midway getting some transition points on the other end of the floor.

Hobbton was led by Morrisey’s 8 points and Hall’s 9.

Midway was led by Jamarrious Rich, who scored 12 points. Cal Tyndall added 11 and Matthew Faircloth scored 7.

Head coach of Midway, Josh Bullard, was pleased with the effort.

“It was a good game for our guys, we came out and got a good start early, and I am really proud of the way we played,” said the Midway coach.

“To get ready for Sampson, we’ll have to work on rebounding and our press break. They killed us rebounding last time, and that’s the main reason we lost that game.”

Midway is now 12-1 and will play Sampson for all the marbles on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
