The Midway Lady Raiders celebrated the high school careers of Taylor Faircloth and Brianna Butler Tuesday night as they hosted West Bladen. The team’s only 2 seniors exited with a 55-31 win.

Fittingly, Butler and Faircloth scored the game’s first 2 baskets, as Midway led 14-6 after 1 quarter. The margin was 25-16 at intermission.

The home team added to the lead in the 3rd period and the Lady Knights faced a 16 point deficit going to the final frame. The score was 43-27.

In the 4th period, the Raider defense held West Bladen to just 4 points as Midway coasted to a 24 point victory.

Leading the way for Midway was Leah Williams with 17 points. Faircloth tallied 16, while freshman Alyssa Wrench connected on 9.

Hannah Lucas scored 5. Senior Butler had 4. Tatyana Solomon and Rachel Hodges added 2 each.

Laikyn Pait led the Lady Knights with 11 points.

“Yesterday in practice we really focused on more man-type defense,” stated Midway head coach Brian Wallum. “They played it pretty well tonight. The seniors played well and they played unselfishly.”

Wallum continued, “I just want to thank the seniors. They took me in last year as the coach. They had played varsity basketball before. They’re great teammates and great kids to coach and easy to coach and I enjoyed it.”

The Lady Raiders improve to 7-6 in the Four County Conference and 12-10 overall. West Bladen drops to 5-8 and 7-15. The 2 will meet again Monday night in the first round of the conference tournament. Meanwhile, the Lady Raiders will visit Union Friday, while West Bladen travels to East Bladen.
