The Lakewood Lady Leopards struggled the first half against the Hobbton Wildcats Thursday night. However, in the second half, they took over the game winning 65-36.

The Wildcats had a 7-6 lead after the first quarter and trailed boy only 3 at the half. In the third quarter, the Leopards got their game together and began to pull away. The led by 20, 48-28 after 3 quarters.

Briana Evans had 22 points for the Leopards and Jada Moore had 21. Justine Henry chipped in 9. For the Wildcats, Shay Bell had 12. Nina Devone only scored 9; however she went out in the second quarter with an ankle injury. She was able to come back after the half and finish the game.

Lakewood coach Vonnie McNeil said, “Tonight was our senior night and we had a lot of emotions going one. It was kind of messing up our game a little bit as they realized this was their last game. We got it together in the second half and ran our offense picking up some easy baskets. We got the win and I’m proud of it.”

“We played good enough tonight to win,” said Hobbton coach Leonard Henry… we played a half of course. It seems like in the second half we came out and just couldn’t get some shots to fall. We sort of lost a little bit of energy there. Hats off to Lakewood. They came out and finished and shot the ball well. We’ll chalk it up and get ready for Monday and see what the tournament has to hold for us.

Lakewood and Hobbton will square off again Monday night in the second game at Lakewood in the first round of the conference tournament.
