The Lady Leopards hosted the Lady Wildcats for their first conference tournament game. The Lady Leopards took the win to move on to the next round of the tournament, 53-41.
The first quarter was an intense seesaw battle between the two teams. The game went back and forth with evenly matched playing from both teams both offensively and defensively. Hobbton was able to get the last shot before the buzzer to get a 1-point lead, 13-14.
The second quarter saw a huge change in the game. The Lady Leopards came out and dominated, and only allowed the Lady Wildcats to score 4 points. This pushed Lakewood into a nice lead, 30-18.
The Lady Leopards and the Lady Wildcats both hit similar paces in the third quarter. Both teams scored 10 points keeping the gap for the lead the same. The Lady Leopards clung to their good lead, 40-28.
The Lady Wildcats pushed hard in the fourth quarter to make a run to take the lead. They came close many times but in the final minutes but a few mistakes allowed the Lakewood Leopards to increase the lead again for the win, 53-41.
Justina Henry led the Lady Leopards with 17 points. Brianna Evans added on 15 and Jada Moore contributed 12 points.
Two girls led the Lady Wildcats scoring every point. Shay Bell had 21 points and Nina Devone added on the other 20.
Hobbton head coach, Leonard Henry is very pleased with his team in this game and overall.
“It was a good game tonight. I’m very proud of the girls. We didn’t execute that well down the stretch; we missed a few free-throws and a few layups but overall these girls have improved from day one,” he said.
“I’m so proud of them and my two seniors left everything had out on the court. It was a good season and I told them that I’m not giving up on them and were going to continue to stay tight as a unit and were going get better as time goes on.”
The Lady Leopards will move on in the conference tournament. Who the Lady Leopards was not known at press time.
