The Lady Spartans softball team hosted the Lakewood Leopards Tuesday evening. The Lady Leopards jumped out early and pulled out a nice win over the Lady Spartans, 12-2.
The Lady Leopards jumped out early, scoring several runs and defensively keeping the Spartans from scoring at all. The Spartans were able to get on the board later in the game but the gap for the lead was just too large for the Union team. The Lady Leopards coasted to the 10-run victory, stress free for the remainder of the game.
Lakewood’s stats and comments were unavailable during press time.
Leading for the Spartans was Shamyra Hope and Nikya Owens who both scored one run each. Lindsey Ammons went 2 for 2 and Andrea Gonzalez went 1 for 1 with an RBI.
Spartan head coach, Doug Burley believes his team can improve a lot but sees it in a positive way. As of right now the team is still being put together and once that is done things should go a lot smoother.
“With a little bit more work we will get better,” said Burley. “That is the big thing right now. We are just hoping to improve each and every day.”
Union travels to Hobbton on Wednesday. Lakewood hosts Midway on Friday.
