The Union Lady Spartans’ soccer team hosted the Lakewood Lady Leopards in an intense soccer match Tuesday evening. The Lady Spartans were able to pull out the win, fighting off the Lady Leopards till the very end, 6-4.

Lady Spartan, Poala Sevilla put on a show tonight, surpassing a hat trick to score all six of the Union goals. She scored her first goal early in the game at the 34:01 mark driving the ball straight to the back of the net. That was followed up by three more goals from Sevilla at the, 23:50, 9:59, and 4:04 marks.

The Lakewood Leopards were able to slide past the Spartan goalie with only 20 seconds left in the first half off of a penalty kick. The Lady Spartans had a nice 4-1 lead over the Lady Leopards going into the second half.

Lakewood came back onto the field with more momentum, giving the previously strong Spartan defense some trouble. The Lady Leopards started to send the ball to net back to back for the addition of three goals. The Lady Spartans fought back and Poala Sevilla was able to score two more goals to maintain the lead till the end of the game, resulting in a Spartan win, 6-4.

First year, Spartan head coach, Alyssa Neimeyer was very happy with the win. “For the first game of the season there were a lot of positives. We played hard and hustled but there is still a lot to work on. I think, overall, we’re pretty optimistic about the rest of the season.”

The Lady Spartans will travel to in county rivals Hobbton, to take on the Lady Wildcats on Wednesday. The Lady Leopards will take the soccer action back home Friday, against the Midway Lady Raiders.
