The Clinton Dark Horses earned their first win of the year Friday when they dropped Spring Creek by a score of 5-1, at Spring Creek.

“It’s good to get the first win of the season,” said Clinton’s head coach Tracy Thornton. “We had a big performance from our pitcher tonight, and that was big for us. Anytime a guy has that many strikeouts, it makes it hard to make many defensive mistakes.”

The big performance was Jonathan Wright’s 13 strikeouts on the hill while allowing just 5 hits and no earned runs. He only walked one Gator. He also went 1-3 at the plate with a 3-run home-run that helped propel his team to victory.

Bailey Spell went 1-4 for Clinton and Jordan Lilliston went 1-2 to add to the offensive box score. Clinton takes on Pender at home this week to open conference play.

“Anytime Jonathan is on the mound, we have a great chance of winning,” continued Thornton. “Maybe this win will help get us starting into the right direction.”
