The Lady Spartans took to the diamond Tuesday evening against the visiting West Bladen Knights. The Lady Spartans lost the game 22-1. Though the game was cut short, the girls still enjoyed getting onto the field.

The Lady Knights got a small jump out on the Lady Spartans in the first inning, 5-0. Union did manage to cut the Knights to only those five runs but were just unable to get any teammates back to home plate.

Then came the second inning when it seemed the Lady Spartans just couldn’t manage to gain 3 outs on the Lady Knights. This allowed West Bladen to add on a huge 15 runs, while Union was still unable to get on the board, 20-0.

In the third inning there was improvements in the Lady Spartan team. They allowed West Bladen only two runs and Alison Alphin hit a double and eventually was able to go back home for the Lady Spartan’s single run of the night. Lindsey Ammons also hit a double and had one RBI.

However, the game had already too big of a gap between the Lady Spartans and the Lady Knights and the game was called early, 22-1.

Head coach, Doug Burley does see some good things in his team. “The girls are working hard and they are improving each game,” he said following the loss.

The Lady Spartans will travel into Lady Titan territory at Trask High School on Friday, March 18.
