The Four County Conference hosted their latest golf match of the season at Land O’Lakes Country Club on Monday, with West Bladen as the host school.
The results were true to form, and varied very little from the previous matches this season, as it was once again, the Dark Horses coming out on top, staying undefeated on the season. CHS shot a team score of 328 to blitz the field.
The other county teams in the conference finished right behind Clinton in second and third place. Midway was second with a team score 364, and Union shot 375 to round out the teams from Sampson County.
Individually, it was another top medalist honor for Union’s Evan Johnson, who has been playing phenomenal golf of late. Johnson fired a 2 over par, 74, to take home first place for a second straight match. Brady Roberts pitched in to help Union’s cause with a 92, helping them finish in third place.
Clinton had 3 players break 80, in an impressive team showing. Reid Darden led the way, shooting 78 for head golf coach Eddie Grey’s team. Amy Wooten and Chandler Perry each shot 79, locking up the win for their squad. Spell Carr and Hampton Brock had respectable rounds, as they shot 92 and 95, respectively.
It was a down day for Midway score-wise, as their top players struggled a bit. Nevertheless, they found their top four players breaking 100, which was good enough for their fourth straight runner-up finish.
Trey Pope led Midway once again after shooting an 88. Clay Honeycutt shot 96, and Aaron Rhodes and Blake Norris each shot 90.
Union head coach Tim Pope went on to praise the play and hard work of his top golfer, Evan Johnson.
“Evan has put in lots of work on the driving range with help from Dickie Walters, PGA Pro at Coharie CC,” said Pope. “His ball-striking is as good as it can be. He is working hard on his short game, and when he gets that mastered, he will knock about 5 shots off of his score. The competition with Amy and Reid for conference medalist is driving Evan to work harder, and working hard never does anything but help.”
The teams are slated to head to the always-in-great-shape River Landing Country Club on Wednesday for one of everyone’s favorite matches of the year. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m., as Wallace-Rose Hill is the host school.
