Clinton and Midway squared off in a Four County Conference softball match-up at the Lady Dark Horse Softball complex on Tuesday evening. Midway took advantage of some sloppy fielding by Clinton to run away with a 19-1 win over the Lady Horses.

The Lady Raiders got three runs in the top of the second, then added five in the third inning to pretty much put the contest away. Midway was not done yet though, adding five in their half of the fourth and then piling on six more in the top of the fifth.

Clinton could only muster one run when Tori Johnson was driven in by a Maccailyn Sessoms single in the fourth inning. After the game Clinton head coach Todd Slater said, “Tori Johnson pitched a good game for us but we gave her no defensive support. We have to reduce our mistakes to give ourselves a chance to win.”

Midway was led offensively by Alyssa Wrench who got on base four times, scoring each time she got aboard. Haily West picked up two hits and scored three runs in four plate appearances. The Lady Raiders got a strong pitching performance from Blythe Best as she struck out six Lady Dark Horses in route to the win.

The loss drops Clinton to 1-13 overall and 0-9 in Four County Conference play. Midway improves their record 8-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Clinton will play host to East Bladen on Thursday night in another Four County Conference game. Midway goes out of conference when they play host to Triton on Thursday at Spivey’s Corner.
