In a contest that was a defensive struggle throughout regulation, the Lady Rebels of North Duplin knocked off Lakewood in a Carolina 1-A Conference match on Tuesday night.

North Duplin won on penalty kicks by a score of 3-2. Scoring those goals for the Lady Rebels were Esmeralda Lopez-Perez, Joanna Flores, Kennedy Rangel, respectively. The final score of the game was 1-0.

Perhaps the game’s MVP was North Dulin’s goalie, Darlene Martinez. She played in the goal for the Lady Rebels and saved three penalty kicks during the extra session, and helped the North Duplin defense pitch a shut-out throughout the course of regulation play.

Scoring has been a problem for the Lady Leopards in their losses this season, and the story stayed true to form in the tough night they had against North Duplin on Tuesday.

Lakewood falls to 3-9 overall and 2-7 in conference play. Their struggles continue in front of their home crowd, as they are just 1-5 in games played at Lakewood High School.

North Duplin earned their first win of the season and in conference play with the thrilling win on Tuesday. The Lady Rebels travel to James Kenan on Thursday for their next game, and Lakewood is slated to travel to Rosewood High School in Goldsboro the same night for a match-up with the Lady Eagles.
