For the sixth consecutive year, the Clinton High School soccer program is set to host their annual Darkness Soccer Skills Camp. The camp is set for the week of June 13-17, and is for rising kindergarten through 8th grade boys and girls.

The sessions will be each day from 8:30-11:30 a.m. It is asked that each camper bring lots of water, cleats, shin guards, sun block, and an age-sized soccer ball.

Clinton coach Brad Spell knows the importance of honing skills at a young age, and admits that this is what this camp is all about.

“I want to ask everyone to come out and to please help support our soccer program by building our field of dreams,” he said. ” The Darkness camp gives our staff the opportunity to teach young players the benefits of the game through hard work and dedication.”

Applicants who apply early get a free t-shirt. The camp is limited to the first 100 campers. Applications can be found online by visiting the Sampson County Soccer Website under camps.

The soccer program gave more information on the camp itself in a press release, which stated the following:

“This camp will focus on the complete soccer player. We will teach the fundamentals on dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, communicating, as well as team concepts. Campers will get a opportunity to take their game to the next level and find out the importance of what working through adversity means and get a chance to learn drills used at the high-school level. We will also stress the importance of being a good student and good citizen. Our campers will not only learn the fundamentals of the game of soccer, but will get to compete in individual and team competition.

The camp will be run by our coaching staff at Clinton High School. We may also enlist the services of our Varsity Soccer members. By using these team members, we feel that this will give our campers not only great instruction but great role models. This camp will be helping our team members raise money for the Soccer Programs at Clinton High School and the continued effort of building this CHS Soccer Facility.”

It is asked that all questions are directed to Brad Spell at (910) 990-7347. Cash or checks are welcome, and it is asked that checks are payable to Clinton High School. Applicants should mail all applications and checks to Coach Brad Spell at 112 Wallace Ln., Clinton 28328.
