Clinton’s softball team played their home finale on Monday night, a conference tilt against Trask. The Lady Dark Horses celebrated Senior Night, honoring their lone senior, Sydney Simmons before the game. Unfortunately for the Lady Dark Horses the celebration was short lived as Trask took a three inning decision, winning 8-2 in a game called due to lightning and rain.
Clinton jumped out to the early lead at 2-0 in the first inning when senior Sydney Simmons drove in two runs with a triple. Simmons also made a great catch to take a hit away from Trask but her Senior Night heroics were not enough to hold off the Lady Titans. The visitors plated seven runs in the top of the second to put the game out of reach. The umpires called a delay after three innings due to lightning in the area, and when the weather deteriorated further the two teams decided to call it a game, giving the Lady Titans an 8-2 win.
After the game, Clinton head coach Todd Slater said, “the girls came out and played well tonight, Sydney had a big Senior Night with a triple, two RBIs and great defensive play. Macailynn Sessoms was also big for us in the field tonight but the Trask bats were just too much for us”
The loss drops Clinton to 2-16 on the season and 1-12 in conference play. Clinton will finish up the season with a trip to Wallace-Rose Hill on Thursday night.
